Since the advent of the internet, communication on the World Wide Web (WWW) has become extremely popular. Many companies, corporations, and businesses have taken advantage of it, and you can see advertisements on any web page you visit.


Consumers can access any search engine, type in keywords related to what they're looking for, then hit the "search" button, and they'll be presented with a long list of results to choose from. This is a very cost-effective and time-saving advertising method.


Having a personalized website has now become very easy for any business to communicate, interact directly with customers, and provide details about their products and services. Regular newsletters, offers, and discounts can be posted on the site to increase the interest of website visitors.


Because it's easy to reach a wide variety of audiences for any business, the potential for abuse is always present. Based on this, internet advertising is classified into two types: legal online advertising and illegal online advertising. Legal online advertising includes online advertising directories, search engine advertising, email advertising, and desktop advertising.


Illegal advertising is more commonly known as spamming. This is typically done by changing system settings or using external applications, which then send pop-ups to specific networks or computers.


These external applications are known as adware or spyware. Some of them are very dangerous, the most notorious being Trojan horses, which are very difficult to remove and uninstall from the system. With the advancement of technology, special effects are used to make advertisements more attractive.


Bright colors, good page layout, and a lot of imagination are involved. Adobe Flash is commonly used to design today's ads. Depending on the technology used for design, ads can be classified into various categories. Banner ads are animations displayed on websites, usually created in HTML or Eudora.


There are various types and sizes of ads. Advertising on Internet, Deceptive banner ads are banner ads that have additional functionality in the form of dialog boxes and buttons, and are displayed as warning or error messages.


Pop-ups are ads that appear in a new window that covers the active web page. Pop-under ads open in another window beneath the active web page and can be viewed after the window is closed or minimized. Interstitial ads are ads that appear before redirecting to the desired page. 


Wallpaper ads form the background of a web page. Ads that float on the screen are known as floating ads. Polite ads download at a low speed without disrupting the normal functionality of the website.


Ads that enlarge and change the content of the page being viewed are known as expanding ads. Ads displayed in video format on websites are known as video ads.


There are many ways to purchase ad space online, such as CPM, CPV, CPC, CPA, CPL, and CPO. CPM, or cost-per-mile, means the advertiser pays for a specific number of people who receive the ad. 


CPV, or cost-per-visitor, means the advertiser pays for the number of people who receive the ad. CPC, or cost-per-click, means the advertiser pays for the number of clicks a visitor makes on the ad.


Although the ad is placed on a website, payment is only made after a visitor clicks on the ad URL. CPA, or cost-per-action, means the advertiser bears all advertising costs but is only paid if the visitor clicks on the ad and purchases a product or signs up for a service.


CPL, or cost-per-lead, is similar to CPA, except that visitors don't have to buy anything; they simply sign up to receive newsletters and regular special offers.


CPO, or cost per order, is the amount an advertiser pays each time an order is placed. Online advertising can be used not only to promote a product or service but also for purposes such as promoting charities and spreading education.
